I work with a lot of teenage clients. If you have a preteen/teen who you have concerns about their eating habits/behaviors and want to have them assessed please contact me. It is better not to wait and to get professionals such as their pediatrician, a therapist and a dietitian with expertise in eating disorders and disordered eating to talk to them. Early treatment is key. But all treatment and intervention at any time is always better than waiting. Please reach out and get support for yourself and your child.
Preteen/Teen: I begin with a 2 hour initial session broken into 2 one hour sessions. The first one hour session I meet with the parent(s)/caretakers and then on a different day meet for one hour with the preteen/teen.
Children: For parents who are concerned with their child’s eating habits or behaviors OR for parents who want to practice intuitive eating practices with their children I offer a 2 hour “workshop” to support parents finding peace with the children around food!
Family Sessions and Support
One of my favorite areas of work is with teenagers and their mothers. So many brave mothers out there are looking at their own relationships with food and their bodies for themselves, and as they relate to their child’s development of self. I enjoy helping women of all ages along this journey either together in sessions or working independently with moms and daughters or sons. I provide a safe, welcoming, and non-judge-mental experience to be on this valuable and wonderful journey.
Family support might also be for a child struggling with an eating disorder or disordered eating and body image concerns who needs more advanced support. I provide medical nutrition therapy for those struggling which includes family based approaches for the treatment of eating disorders. I stay in close contact with families and treatment teams to support clients who can be treated at an outpatient level of care.
I am trained and provide Family Based Treatment for Eating Disorders (FBT) and am eager to work with families needing help implementing and supporting this effective strategy and treatment for eating disorders with their teenage child at home.
Family Testimonial:
As parents of a child who has struggled with a serious eating disorder for 6 years, my husband and I have worked with many primary care physicians, psychiatrists, therapists, and dietitians. Whether you are like us and have been at it for years or are just starting to figure out what your child needs, you know how very hard and important it is to find truly knowledgeable and helpful care providers. Well, as far as dietitians go, you can stop your search right here. You have found the absolute best in Ashleigh Sellman. It’s not just that she is extremely knowledgeable about all things food, which, of course, she is. It’s also not just how skillful she is as a clinician – she knocks it out of the park. What really tips her into being the best is how much she cares about and roots for our daughter and how kind, caring, and helpful she is to my husband and me as we face the daily heartbreaks of this ugly illness. Honestly, I wish everyone working on recovering from an eating disorder could have an Ashleigh on their treatment team. She is pure gold.
