Dancing, singing, story telling
Using our bodies and using our voices
Moving our bodies and embodying our voices.
Connection. Making Sound. Making waves.
Vibration. Frequency. Transparency. Authenticity.
Did we stop? When did we stop? Why?
Why not still dance with the same feet you used to?
Why not still sing and let the world or the forest or the car hear you?
What are the stories that have created your life?
Will our stories be richer, more flavorful, denser and more passionate if we have music in our souls? Beats in our hearts? Songs on our lips. Tales in our breath.
I want to move and feel drops of life flowing out of my fingertips.
I want to sing and let the angels in my soul awaken gloriously.
I want to speak my truth and tell my tales and have peace wash over me because I am not afraid to own me, hold me, be me, love me.
I want to practice that continuously. Unapologetically.
I want to remind myself when I forget.
What do you want to do?
You have the same feet, the same sounds, the same words your whole life. What can you do to feel them, hear them, be with them?
What do you want to do with them?
– Ashleigh Sellman on a Tuesday afternoon. Not polished, Not edited. Just present and written down. An ongoing practice to say it and let it go.
Music has been the theme in my thoughts this week. As I waited for a nibble to pop up to be shared, this is the one that came. Music and the power it has to support us, guide us, ground us. I thought about how important lyrics have been in my own journey.
So many songs have played a part, the following are two sets of lyrics I always resonate and go back to over and over. What are your songs, your lyrics that you return to when you need them? I hope you sing them and dance with them.
Syncophated Healing by Twiddle
Hey pretty lady let your hair down baby
Shake your booty to the music let the grooves make you crazy
May the rhythm of your body put your mind at ease
All the burdens in your life fly high with the breeze and
You feel the bass vibratin’ in your knees
All the rhythms of the world trickle down from the trees
The drums start to rumble with your heart as a whole
It’s the power of the music syncopatin’ with your soul and.
Do-do-do, do-do-do
Woooah
It’s the weight of the world pulling down on your life
When it feels like you’re waiting pacing trying to survive
There’s a moment when you start thinking to yourself
I gotta get over this I need some help
And shout it out like the rhythm in the sun
Let the good vibrations keep you rollin’ on strong
Relax and dream one day at a time
Let the beauty of the music start to heal your life
Heal your life

Head Full of Doubt by The Avett Brothers
There’s a darkness upon me that’s flooded in light
In the fine print they tell me what’s wrong and what’s right
And it comes in black and it comes in white
And I’m frightened by those that don’t see it
When nothing is owed or deserved or expected
And your life doesn’t change by the man that’s elected
If you’re loved by someone, you’re never rejected
Decide what to be and go be it
There was a dream and one day I could see it
Like a bird in a cage I broke in
And demanded that somebody free it
And there was a kid with a head full of doubt
So I’ll scream ’til I die
And the last of those bad thoughts are finally out
